Melbourne is famous for its multicultural range of restaurants and sophisticated café culture. Whether you’re after a fine dining experience or just a cheap eat, you’re sure to find what you need – and we do excellent coffee in Melbourne too!
Within a short walk from King Street Backpackers you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants and take-away food outlets where you can enjoy Italian, Indian, Chinese or Modern Australian.
Take a walk along the Yarra River at Southbank where you will find a great range of restaurants and food courts and, of course, Melbourne’s famous Crown Casino.
Little Bourke Street is the location for Melbourne’s China Town. Here you will find every kind of Asian cuisine and even Karaoke bars!
Feel like Italian? Located on the fringe of the city, on Lygon Street you will find a wide range of Italian restaurants and the best gelato in town.
Full of cute café’s and cool bars, Brunswick Street is the hipster capital of Melbourne. Here you’ll find everything from cheap Pizza’s and Souvlaki’s to funky ice-creams and top-notch coffee.
Where to Shop
Shopping starts only a few minutes walk from the hostel. You can start a shopping excursion by exploring the kilometres of arcades, alleys and lanes in Melbourne’s CBD for something special or visit any of the major department stores like Myers or David Jones. Melbourne has boutiques hidden in lanes and arcades that sell some of the best fashion available from local and international designers.
Queen Victoria Market is a great place to find a bargain. Clothing, toys, tools, camping gear and music can all be purchased for reasonable prices as well as fresh farm produce.

These popular bars are located just around the corner and offer great bar meals in a friendly atmosphere where you can relax with your mates as well as some banging tunes on Friday/Saturday nights.
Melbourne’s premier sports bar with a traditional pub menu and an extensive list of beer and wine on offer. Hit the Turf on Wednesdays for the best backpacker party in town (and make sure you ask us for your FREE Drink Card!)
A lively Irish pub just 10 minutes walk from the hostel. Monday night is backpacker’s night with special prices for drinks and live music.
